What You Need:
- Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
- Construction paper
- Markers or Crayons
- Scissors
- Tape
- Glue
What You Do:
1. Read the poem, “Recipe for a Hippopotamus Sandwich,” from Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends to the class. Discuss students’ favorite parts.
2. Have them write a “crazy” recipe for a sandwich that includes all Five Food Groups.
3. Then have them illustrate or use various colors of construction paper to create their “crazy” sandwiches.
