Cupid's Pudding

Students prepare, taste and rate an easy recipe. You may want to have students make Chef's Hats prior to the activity.

Student Outcomes

  • Taste and describe the flavor, taste and texture of a new food
  • Participate in a class tasting survey and evaluate the results

What You Need:

  • Recipe ingredients; for every 12 students, you need:
    • 3.5-ounce box of pudding
    • 2 cups low-fat milk
    • 3- to 4-cup container with tight-fitting lid
    • Optional: 1 package frozen, thawed strawberries
  • Red food coloring
  • Measuring cup
  • Serving bowls
  • Optional: Bowl for strawberries
  • Napkins - 1 per student
  • 3-ounce paper cups - 1 per student
  • Plastic spoons - 1 per student
  • Flip Chart or chalkboard
  • Marker or chalk
  • Draw four columns on the board or flipchart. Label each column as follows: Love It; Like It; Don't Like It; Didn't Taste It

What to Do:

  1. Have student wash their hands or use hand wipes.
  2. Place vanilla pudding mix in a container with a tight-fitting lid. Add 2 cups low-fat milk. Cover tightly.
  3. Standing in a circle, have each student shake the container three times and pass it to the next person. Shake until the pudding thickens.
  4. Transfer the pudding to the serving bowl.
  5. Add red food coloring a drop at a time and stir until well blended and a pink-red color that everyone agrees is good.
  6. Serve tasting size portions.
  7. Optional: Have students top with a spoonful of strawberries.
  8. Conduct a "tasting survey" and record students? reactions on the board or flipchart. Discuss the results.
