Make and Taste Pumpkin Pudding

Students make and taste Pumpkin Pudding. As an art project, have students make and wear their very own Chef's Hats for the activity.

Activity Outcomes

  • Taste and describe the flavor, taste and texture of a new food
  • Participate in a class tasting survey and evaluate the results
What You Need:
  • Materials and directions for "Chef's Hats" (pdf)
  • Ingredients for Pumpkin Pudding
  • Wire whisk
  • Clean container with tight-fitting lid for pudding
  • Liquid measuring cup
  • Can opener
  • Rubber spatula
  • Medium-size mixing bowl
  • Serving spoon
  • Plastic spoons
  • Small cups for tasting-size portions
  • Napkins

What You Do:

1. Have students make their Chef's Hats to wear when they make and taste the pudding.
2. Make the pudding in a container with a tight fitting lid (instead of a bowl) that students can pass around and shake.
3. Transfer the pudding to mixing bowl before adding the pumpkin and spice.
4. Serve tasting-size portions and talk about the flavor, texture and taste.
5. Conduct a tasting survey and record students' reactions on the board or a flipchart. (Note: The tasting survey link is for young children; however, it is a good model for conducting a tasting survey.)
