Benefits of Cooking With Kids

Question:
What are the benefits of cooking with kids?

Answer:
Not only is it an opportunity to teach them about nutrition, but it can also be a lot of fun! Children are more likely to eat what they have helped prepare. When planning meals with children you can take out the food guide pyramid and ask them to identify the different food groups that ingredients and parts of the meal fall into. You can talk about how the bright colors in vegetables and fruits means they are full of vitamins A and C. These nutrients help them to see in the dark and help their wounds heal. When cooking with or serving dairy products talk about how the calcium in them keeps their bones strong and healthy. You'll be surprised what they remember at the next meal!
