Baked Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara
One of kids’ favorites, this recipe is easy and lower in fat than fried mozzarella sticks. The cheese may ooze a little; gently press it back into the stick. It will harden as it cools down a bit. .
Ingredients
1/2 pound mozzarella cheese, pre-packaged, brick style
2 egg whites
1 cup Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
Canola oil cooking spray
1 cup prepared marinara sauce
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
2. Spray baking sheet with cooking spray.
3. Cut the mozzarella brick in half lengthwise. Lengthwise, cut each half into about 6 sticks.
4. Separate egg whites into bowl. Mix with a fork or wire whisk until foamy.
5. Dip each stick into egg whites, then into breadcrumbs, coating the entire stick.
6. Re-dip the stick into the egg whites and once more into the bread crumbs.
7. Place the cheese sticks on the baking sheet. Spray lightly with oil.
8. Bake 5 to 8 minutes, until lightly browned.
9. Serve with warm marinara sauce..
